~ Ongoing: The Imaginal Commons >> the community that formed after my early 2025 ‘singing over the bones’ spaces and from my previous story-gatherings has cohered in an experimental space called THE IMAGINAL COMMONS that aims to meet once a month and invites different community members to step in and space-hold / offer Something to be held in sacred togetherness. although i am helping to tend and shepherding, i am not at the Center of this space in allowance for experimentation/stepping in of the others who are interested in doing so! <3 if this sounds like something you’d like to experience or be a part of, also send me a hi/hallo and we’ll dialogue. :)
September 2024 was the anniversary of my THE BOOK OF LEGEND publishing back in 2019, and 1 year holding monthly story-space ‘in the wilds of myth’ and in the wilds of the deep heart! Thank you to everyone who has grown this precious international community with me and made space in their lives and hearts for stories, sharing/listening, imagination, and connection. <3
CURRENT OFFERINGS:
INTO THE WILD: 1-on-1 Legend Sessions + Storytelling Work
Choose your own adventure: earth-centered storytelling of the old stories in the oral tradition held in sacred space, 1-on-1 or group Legend Sessions (inner/outer journeying into our personal mythologies and landscapes), outdoor sessions in the NYC area, storywork and mythic mentorship/accompaniment. More info here.
WILDLIGHT: poetry & prose from inside the fire (book – 258 pages)
“An act of sacred invocation,” WILDLIGHT is Audrey Dimola’s third book, a vulnerably thunderous collection of original poetry and prose written from inside the heart of the fire. It is an “alchemical document of reclamation” plunging with deep devotion and full-throated honesty into the wildernesses of love, spirituality, addiction, sex, shamanism, mental health crisis, self-love, and rebirth. $15 (+contribution for shipping if international), more info/purchase here.
THE BOOK OF LEGEND (book – 123 pages)
Called its “own unique unrepeatable genre– a new species of book,” THE BOOK OF LEGEND is Audrey Dimola’s fourth and latest offering, a crystallization of the teachings and adventures that saved her life. It is personal essay, original mythos, and prayer that began with the creative recontextualization of her rampant suicidality and bipolar II diagnosis in the form of stories she spontaneously received about a black wolf and a white wolf. It is a book about self-trust, the intersection of imagination and spirit, and recognizing that YOU ALWAYS HAVE A CHOICE in your healing and evolution. $12 (+contribution for shipping if international), more info/purchase here.

You will be led through a seamless presentation of vignettes of dreams and memories, told through music, dance, poetry, and theatrical elements both specific and universal, playful and haunting. “The Wild Papers” is an exploration of the joy and poignancy of nostalgia, what we bring with us as we go forward, and what makes us who we are.

‘go slowly, see miracles’ at LIC Arts Open Festival 2016
May 18th-22nd, 2016 – 43-01 21st Street, LIC [Facebook]
Known throughout Queens for her explosive poetry, performance, and curatorial work, this is LIC native Audrey Dimola’s first art installation. ‘go slowly, see miracles’ is an immersive amalgam of hidden treasures and alcoves of memories, a cross between a lost boy’s wilderness hideaway, a secret grotto in the mind, and the gritty intersections of love, identity, and nostalgia. It features a variety of never before seen mixed media art pieces, 3D poetry, found objects, sound and visuals, and more- exploring wild spirituality, descents into darkness, reclamation and annunciation. The work is specially presented in this form for LICAO 2016.

Queens Book Festival
August 7th, 2016 – Kaufman Astoria Studios [Facebook]
Speaking on the Taking Poetry to the Streets panel with former Queens Poet Laureate Paolo Javier: Some may think of poetry as a writing style only for the lofty towers of higher education or the upper class, but these poets are taking their talents and love of poetry, and bringing it to everyone. These poets will elaborate on Audre Lorde’s statement, “Poetry is not a luxury. It is a vital necessity for our existence.” How is poetry a “light “in which we can put our hopes and dreams and use it to create change?

Visitor Experience Conference 2016
October 10th, 2016 – Philadelphia, PA
Speaking with the Lewis H. Latimer House Museum about my immersive theatrical experience, THE WILD PAPERS, on the “How to Let Visitors Create Their Own Experience” panel. View the presentation here.
One often under-represented group in the process of designing visitor experience are visitors themselves, who are really the core in experiencing cultural institutions. This session explores ways to involve visitors in creating their own experience through unconventional partnerships across cultural institutions, multidisciplinary artists, and community groups. Two projects being discussed here are Light On Sound art installation and Wild Papers theatre, both of which happened at Lewis H. Latimer House. The former incorporates the voice of local residents into an interactive installation, through community poetry workshops. The latter invited the audience to reinterpret the institutional space through a site-specific performance. The session will serve as a trigger for open conversations and collaboration proposals on more innovative ways to engage visitors to create their own cultural experience, either prior to or during their visit, and make a lasting impact on the institution through their experience.

HOW WE CREATE & HOW WE COPE: intersections of art & mental health/mental illness
February 10th, 2017 – Queens Council on the Arts’ LAB space in Astoria [Facebook]
Queens native and poet/curator Audrey Dimola hosts a panel and performance evening aiming for safe space, honest talk, and open presentations about the too-often stigmatized topic of mental illness, particularly in connection to the creative experience. Throughout our cultural history, many of the legendary artists we know today grappled in this way- yet it becomes a passing line in their bio, a tragic footnote; and their brilliant work remains. In the present day, an increasing number of individuals of all ages are struggling in similar fashion, frequently in silence and shame, for fear of judgment and unanswered questions. How much of how we suffer makes us who we are and results in the art we create? How much of these feelings are the natural experience of the artist, and when is it time to seek help? What do those forms of help look like? A variety of local featured artists will present their stories, poetry, music, visual art, and more, in addition to facilitated discussion, Q&A, and sharing of resources/experiences on these topics. All are welcome, your voice is encouraged.

after moving ten times in the past five years + wracking endlessly with heartbreak, codependency, emotional instability + spiritual awakening– this assemblage, in dialogue with my installation at JCAL– conjures the resolutions + beginnings borne out of my hero’s journey to WRITE HOME + reclaim the legend of my own Self.

April 19, 2021 – online [Event info]
IDHA and facilitators JoAnn Dorio Burton, CPRP and Kristin Becker, LCMHCA are hosting a workshop that explores the Hero’s Journey as an empowering way for individuals and practitioners to conceptualize life experiences in ways that are person-centered, de-stigmatizing, and cross-cultural. This event expands upon themes covered in the November 2020 IDHA workshop “How to Convert Your Life Into Legend.” Joined by storyteller and previous IDHA presenter Audrey Dimola, the trio will traverse the stages of the Journey (including Departure/Separation, On The Road/Initiation, and Return/Transformation), discuss how to engage the Hero’s Journey in your life and practice, and explore how to invoke specific myths to deepen resonance and internal explorations in the way that only the Old Stories can- with the rich example of the Grail Legend that centers around Parsifal, the Wounded Fisher King, and the courage to ask the necessary questions. Workshop recording is here.

Moving Through Myth – The Way Out Is In
March 15, 2022 [online] as part of Wiracocha Foundation and Qoya Inspired Movement’s fundraiser to support the women weavers of the Q’ero people of Peru
The old stories carry ancient earthen energies that can help us move with and through the trouble and mystery of our lives. Audrey di Mola is an earth-based singer, teller, dancer, Listener, and mythographer– called to continue helping others to remember the Deep Songs of Earth and Story. In this “The Way Out Is In” session Audrey will guide participants through a gathering of chosen stories around a virtual hearth-fire, that we will then “feed” and share from. Where do we find ourselves in the story? What announced itself in our bodies to tell us that? From there, we will dip into visualization/meditation or free movement/embodiment exercises to walk through our own internal legendary wilderness. Nothing is needed besides space to hear, listen, and feel.

Wild Body Dreaming with Audrey – storytelling session for Dr. Sharon Blackie’s Mythic Imagination Network {April- debut!}
April 27, 2o22 [online]
The old stories carry ancient earthen energies that can help us move with and through the trouble and mystery of our lives. This is the first of several events in which Audrey di Mola will gather us monthly in sacred circle to tell an old story or stories in the oral tradition – the ones which choose to be told that day, in that moment. We will practice listening with our whole body, and afterwards will ‘feed the story’ to be in right relationship with the nourishment we received. Where do we find ourselves in the story? What announced itself in our bodies to tell us that? We explore together, holding space for each other and ‘trailing not trapping’ the profound aliveness that courses through these tales.

For The Depths of Us – performance-walk and ritual for Works on Water’s Water Connectors cohort 2022
June 25, 2022 – 16 Oaks Grove to The Cove in Astoria/LIC, Queens [more info]
Works on Water’s Water Connectors is a series of six neighborhood-based temporary public art projects that connect NYC communities vulnerable to the effects of climate change with their waterfront, and with each other. I worked with my Kin to the Cove collaborator, dancer/choreographer Christopher Bisram to weave this experience:
In the late 1800s a body of water that ran through Ravenswood to the East River was buried underground to make way for increasing industrialization. What in us has been buried in the name of progress– what have we sent down into the dark? Kin To The Cove artists Christopher Bisram and Audrey di Mola lead a neighborhood performance-walk tracing the path of Sunswick Creek down to the Cove, woven with personal and collective mythologies in the form of dance, storytelling, song, and ritual. What can be recovered when we make the ecological practice of “daylighting” a stream, metaphorical? What can be found, inside us, out of the Depths?

Estrogenius Festival 2023 – Solo Voce
Feb/March 2023
My brand new autobiographical solo show “grace period” (written in Feb 2023) was accepted into the festival but after much reflection, as an act of mercy for my own wellbeing I chose not to perform and the organizers were graciously understanding <3
The blurb:
A storyteller and adult child of a dysfunctional family is inspired by the myth of Ariadne to trace threads back through the labyrinthine complexity of her intergenerational trauma. In familial narratives and patterings of pain that feel so inextricable, what happens when we venture into the darkness in attempt to individuate, to heal, to Change? An autobiographical solo show offering an honest glimpse into the tangles of what tracing the secrets and “reasons Why” is actually like, examining the inter- and inner-weavings of love, shame, violence, and unprocessed grief.

Secret City: Encountering the Urban Mythic pilot session for Dr. Sharon Blackie’s Mythic Imagination Network
April 4, 2023 [online]
{Thank you so deeply to Sharon herself for encouraging the development of this offering and Seeing my own urban mythology from the first time we met! <3}
The mythic world has no bounds, and yet it is often easy to ascribe soul to a forest but not to a city. Are you open to seeing the urban landscape in a new way– one alive with the guidance, stories, and resourcing we find naturally in wild places?
New York City dweller and storyteller Audrey di Mola was born and raised in a post-industrial neighborhood along the East River in which tapestries of birdsong and native plants bursting out of sidewalks were as common as active warehouses, grinding steel, and illegal trash dumping. Audrey became increasingly and intimately attuned to what she calls “the urban mythic” as a matter of energetic and emotional survival, not only grounding and regulating with the wild she could find in the city, but receiving unique mythologies and creating lasting relationships with the beings she encountered there.
The co-presenters/facilitators of this gathering are the beings themselves, including an underground stream diverted into the sewer system, the “wilds of the deep heart” growing in a stalled construction site, a beloved suspension bridge that became an urban mountaintop, and a massive silver linden resembling the Tree of Life, alone amongst baseball fields, with whom Audrey deeply bonded in the last years of its long life.
During the course of this gathering we’ll discuss the practicalities and perceived obstacles to communion with the urban mythic and sound inspirations for overcoming them, such as taking wandering walks and making intentional “containers” in which to have mini vigils or explorations exactly where you are.
Special consideration will also be made to develop a sense of when we are “being claimed” or called by those urban beings or landscapes which seem dirty, repulsive, or “abandoned.” What in our inner worlds can our outer environment reflect to us, and can we meet our potential biases/inclinations towards what is pleasing or comforting to behold?
To engage with this in real-time, we’ll take a break during the gathering and go outside to take a short sojourn into our immediate surroundings, returning to each other afterwards to share where our bodies led us, and what beings announced themselves. (** Note: no worries if you don’t live in a city! We can apply these exercises anywhere.)
Secret City will be offered in Audrey’s characteristic easeful manner, with the aim of receiving what is already there, rather than seeking it, figuring it out, or “trying to make something mystical happen”! This communal exploration is not meant to dissuade pilgrimage or restorative journeys to more expansive or far-flung landscapes– but a loving dare to acknowledge even what seems overcrowded, intense, and full of litter and concrete as a home for the World Soul.

Join Audrey di Mola, Aly Foy, and Kirsten Milliken for a three-part offering of stories with space for listening and reflection.

Sound + Story: an improvisational exploration in trusting the expression of soul-full rhythms and ancient stories
August 3, 2023 – The Portal in Brooklyn [Eventbrite]
In collaboration with sound journeyer, multi-instrumentalist, and circle-singer Yuma Is <3
The sacred offerings of sound and story are ancient– our birthright, informed by spirit and the earth, ignited with the truths and travails we’ve experienced in our own human bodies. On this evening at The Portal, sound journeyer Yuma Is and storyteller Audrey di Mola will weave their worlds for the first time– trusting improvisational sounds and old stories to flow through them, to each other and those gathered. Come as you are to add your presence, see and be seen. This is not a performance but a safely held circle, a moment of Being-ness and Together-ness to commune with our own mythologies and soundscapes.

the wilds of the deep heart presents: INTO THE LABYRINTH
October 17, 2023 – [two sessions; online, info here]
“during my travels in california the thematic of THE LABYRINTH returned to me– so much so that my body was led, without trying, to two labyrinths hidden in the landscape of the [pictured] sibley volcanic regional preserve during one solo adventure. this was a strong motif i was working with over the wintertime in my explorations of my own/my family’s intergenerational trauma, woven with the myth of ariadne. there is something here for me, as well, entwined with my long and often painful journey with my digestion, and the impetus to return to my childhood home two years ago to ‘move the energy.’ (turns out i really had no idea what that meant. yet ;)).
during this online gathering we will hold sacred space and move together through an intentional ritual involving story, movement, and inward journeying. // noting that this will be different than previous gatherings which were centered around me telling, and you receiving and feeding back, a story. more of those are in store :) but i feel called to gather us to experiment with/explore in this way, around this theme, for the month of october.”

PARSIFAL & THE GRAIL LEGEND OF THE FISHER KING: 3-hour story deep dive
December 16, 2023 – online
“‘we shall not cease from exploration/ and the end of all our exploring/ will be to arrive where we started/ and know the place for the first time.’ — t.s. eliot.
will you join me for this traversal into the wild heart of an unforgettable grail epic?– the center of which echoes with timeless relevance: the Asking of a Sacred Question into the Wasteland of a Perpetual Wound.”
“this is one of the most important stories of my life. i have not told it since the first and only time i told it– february of 2021, for the UK-based storytelling circle; the first time i formally donned the cloak of Being A Teller. i have wept over this work. for it, and over it. it has been the elixir of life and death, for me. it is the Most Important Thing in my life– not only because of how it has saved and bolstered and enlivened and Held the cracking apart of my existence– but also because it has brought me to All Of You. people and places i would never have met. bonds strengthened. impossible adventures, improbable loves. all from devoting myself to This, over and over; following where the stories lead me.
i cancelled the last monthly online story gathering in light of one of the Other most important things i have ever done in my life, one of the greatest and most profound Honors– walking an old friend through the threshold of their physical death. i am Changed, my heart has been broken, widened– my scope of the Most Precious and Most Terrible– deepened. i have been sensing this story, not only walking along the edges of my periphery, but/and i have felt a Longing inside me to be lost inside it, as only one of the Big, Old, Winding tales can immersively cloak you. i have needed that place, that Returning, after All Of This– and this morning while on the way to a yoga class i opened a little free library box on the street and found, immediately, a book called: ‘healing the wounded king: soul work and the quest for the grail.’
it must be told, it must be told, it must be told.“

Myth and Mental Health: Wulf Speak and Heart-Eye Vision
June 29, 2024 – online on Dr. Sharon Blackie’s Substack, The Art of Enchantment [recording available for paid subscribers]
Multidisciplinary artist, space-holder, and oral tradition storyteller Audrey di Mola is deeply informed by her first stretch of time in the underworld; a.k.a. the years she spent in what is commonly referred to as ‘mental health crisis’ and suicidality. Audrey shares in a characteristically honest and experiential presentation how her bipolar II diagnosis became mythically re-translated as a walk with a black wolf and a white wolf– and how the rest of her incredible, life-saving journeys in Legend grew out from there. Not intended for only those who have lived experience with mental health crisis or have received diagnoses– curiosity and ‘leaning in’ is more than welcome. These learnings from the profound generativity of Audrey’s descents and re-emergences can be applied, in general, to engaging life in a more intentional, spacious, integrated, deep listening, and imaginally-interwoven way.

growing your wings on the way down: a mythic & personal exploration of suicidality & madness
September 22, 2024 – online [more info]
A deeply moving (and important to me) mythic mental health collaboration with my soul-brother, storyteller/practitioner Chaise Levy (of Northern Spirit House), for this month themed with suicide observances/awarenesses (World Suicide Prevention Day, National Suicide Prevention Month). Chaise and I recently collaborated on the Northern Spirit House podcast conversation, ‘Living your legend- a myth could save your life.’ <3
“Join storyteller/psychopomp Audrey Nova di Mola and storyteller/sorcerer Chaise Levy for an intentionally held space to mythically explore suicidality and madness as they each approach the 9 year anniversary of their initial Descents. September is designated as Suicide Prevention Month and our approaches– carried out completely unbeknownst to each other, on opposite coasts– have been to lean into the particular kind of amplification and spaciousness that a mythic and ritual context provides, meeting the generativity and the danger of such experiences and states. Weaving both personal and mythic stories, Audrey and Chaise will explore alternatives to a singular model of ‘prevention’ and more ‘traditional’ ways of receiving mental health crises, an ever-evolving pathway that encompasses community and being witnessed, images, magic, Seeing and Re-membering new and ancient ways to be with the trouble.”

from my description: “what will this entail? ~ storytelling and stories ~ imaginal experiencing / journeying ~ embodiment in ways that are accessible to you ~ listening and witnessing ~ being in community, in whatever way you are able (including if you feel really shy or overwhelmed or don’t like to speak in front of groups of strangers) ~ getting the f*** out of the way of what wants to happen for each of us, and collectively, in a strongly held ritual container :) this is not a ~workshop or a course.~ it is real people coming together in a new-old way. come for 1, come for all, come for a few. they will build in intentionality, carry the common thematic of singing ourselves back to life, and will be colored by what is present in the group. whatever happens– it is a current of energy that is Going To Exist for these 4 weeks, and you can step into it, or not. <3 this energy is going to consciously be worked with, individually and collectively.”
